We didn't just have a scavenger hunt; we launched a Philosophical Expedition right here on the stunning island of Jeju, South Korea. Our goal was simple yet profound: to prove that critical thinking and deep wonder aren't just for textbooks—they are all around us, waiting to be discovered by you!

Our mission brought together teams of brilliant "young explorers", challenging them to transform Jeju’s beautiful natural spaces and unique culture into a classroom. It was a fusion of play, collaboration, and the biggest questions ever asked, showing that philosophy is the most exciting adventure of all.

Four Challenges, Four Big Ideas

The Hunt consisted of four creative, high-energy tasks that forced our teams to use their imagination and logic together. Each "item" on the list was a question designed to spark a delightful kind of wonder:

  • The Dol Harubang Dialogue: Teams located the iconic stone grandfathers (Dol Harubang) and used them as inspiration to answer: "What is the most important thing a leader needs to protect?" This challenged them to think about ethics, community, and value through a piece of Jeju’s history.

  • The Sea's Question: At the water's edge, teams watched the waves endlessly reshape the sand and rocks. They used this observation to collectively answer: "Can you ever step into the same ocean twice?" This was a playful introduction to the philosophical concept of change (Heraclitus) and the nature of reality.

  • Collaborative Compassion: Each team was tasked with finding a moment to help another person or team (sharing water, helping with a clue, etc.) and then discussing: "Where does kindness come from?" This was an active exercise in social philosophy and teamwork, turning empathy into a required part of the mission.

  • The Tangerine Riddle: Teams had to find a Jeju tangerine and compose a four-line philosophical riddle about it. They had to think about: "Is the most important thing about the tangerine the way it tastes, or the seed it holds?" This forced them to explore essence, potential, and subjective value in an everyday object.

Every riddle solved and every discussion shared was a burst of creative play and deep thought. The Hunt With Philosophy successfully proved to our young participants that every corner of Jeju holds a hidden truth. They left not only with a greater appreciation for the island but also as stronger collaborators and more confident thinkers, turning a simple day out into a powerful exercise in critical interpretation and wonder.
